Easygreen Sprouter

Here's a gadget for your health: An automatic seed
sprouter that makes doing this type of hobby a breeze. It's so easy
that it has saved me hours of time over other sprouters I have
used.
Sprouts are jammed pack full of nutrients and enzymes. By
eating plants in the juvenile stage you get a lot more nutrition out
of them than eating them at the adult stage. When I eat them, I feel
a very noticeable increase in my vitality and I just feel dang good.
To prove that it wasn't all in my mind, I talked a couple people
into eating them (a considerable quantity) while they were sick. The
results were great and each felt really good afterwards with
increased energy. Both felt that they recovered much faster than
normal from their sickness and were relieved to be well again so
fast. Needless to say, I made a couple of dedicated deciples to the
sprout world from this trial.
The Easygreen sprouter uses a mist generator that spits out small
droplets onto the seeds from the unit's 5 liter water reservoir.
This process is automated by plugging the unit into a programmable
timer. The benefit of the mist generator is that it doesn't move or
disturb the seeds. The sprinkler-type sprouters that I own have a
lot of problems washing seeds to the edges of the container and then
I have to readjust the seeds once they sprout. Another thing I've
noticed about this unique method of watering sprouts is that the
sprouts themselves have a much stronger taste. This could be good or
bad depending on how well you like to eat your greens!
The
watering method (the company holds patents on their unique misting
/oxygenating system) is different from most other
automatic
sprouters in yet another way; it doesn't recirculate the water. The
reservoir needs to be filled up every day or two and all of the
waste water drains out into the sink. It uses a lot less water than
other sprouters so it saves time by having to fill it less often
(depending on how often you have it set to run). There is one
attachment that you can purchase separately that automatically fills
the reservoir from your kitchen faucet. I didn't get this to try
out, but with it a person could start the machine, walk away, and
then come back in 5 days to fresh sprouts with nothing else
required. It really could be that easy, although it's recommended to
turn the trays around each day. I didn't find this step really
necessary in my tests although it was good to move the trays from
side to side since the mist generator had a more concentrated spray
pattern towards the center of the unit. One annoyance is where the
water fill hole is located. It is recessed and small so you need
something like a funnel to fill it. I didn't have one (at least not
clean enough) so I had to use a flower watering pail.
The sprouter has a large growing chamber that acts as a
mini-greenhouse. The kit comes with 5 growing trays so you can grow
short-term sprouts like alfalfa and have a new tray each day. One
tray is more than plenty for two people to eat a day. In fact, just
one tray yields almost as much as the total of one of my other
automatic sprouters. The best part about these trays is that they
are extremely easy to retrieve your fresh sprouts from and are ultra
easy to clean. My other sprouters take forever to clean and the time
savings of the Easygreen was a very welcome treat. Another benefit
of these trays is you can use soil in them if you want to depending
on your preference.
I grew multiple crops for this review. I had no
problems with crops like alfalfa and broccoli, but when I grew crops
that took longer like millet and wheatgrass I started to get a
little of mold. I think the problem was the growing chamber had too
much humidity and had no chance to dry out. Air flow wasn't a
problem because the mist generator uses a lot of air while running
so that you can feel a good breeze come out when it's running. To
remedy my problem I took the door off the sprouter completely so
that moisture could escape when the unit wasn't running. I didn't
try adding hydrogen peroxide to the water reservoir, but that is
always an option if I need it.
I really liked this sprouter and it made growing sprouts a
breeze. It was so much faster and easier than any other method I
have tried. If anyone is growing them by manually watering, I feel
sorry for you. Doing it the automatic way is really the only way in
my books. The cost of $259.00 was a little high, now the
manufacturers reduced the price to $179.00....very reasonable. 3 out
of 3 stars.
