I have a chemical sensitivity to bleach. Is it safe to use white vinegar or other more natural products to do the weekly disinfecting process?

Distilled vinegar is fine for most seed types. Some people report good results with a combination of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide. Others like using grape seed extract with about 15 drops of hydrogen peroxide.

You need to consider the seed variety you are germinating. For instance, mung bean seeds have strong marking inhibitors (toxic releases). Vinegar, grape seed extract, and hydrogen peroxide may not be strong enough to completely remove these inhibitors from the plastic apparatus of the machine. For seeds with fewer marking toxins, such as alfalfa, clover, broccoli, etc. (Group 1 in our manual), using more “natural” disinfecting products will work well.
